MoreCult Summer 09 Collection. Arabic Kufi Patterns in Fashion.

September 4, 2008

MoreCult is a new Dutch based fashion design firm working on creating cross cultural designs for casual youth clothing. Arabic Type and Calligraphy are integrated into their modern clothing designs. For the summer Collection 2009, I was asked to design for them some square Kufi patterns that will be used in the collection.

The Kufi Patterns were created from the English words “More Cult”
and the Arabic translation of it “أكثر ثقافة”.

Kufi in fashion! It proves the kufi’s limitless application, who knows maybe one day a rocket might be sent to Mars having Kufi writings on it…. a message for outer space creature in Kufi.

    hehehe

    Kufi script rules

well actually it is interesting to see the kufi arabic calligraphic style become the most modern and contemporary arabic style nowadays, knowing that Kufi is the oldest and earliest Arabic calligraphic styles.

Colours are a bit 80s :P but the design is interesting in application :D

Arabic is so known for its graceful contours and rhythmic nature – so it seems apt that Kufic is now the dominant, contemporary Arabic script as it has everything a graphic artists / designers needs, angles and edges, dimension and versatility without seeming too traditional.

So ironic as you said Pascal, that it is like the oldest calligraphic style, and centuries later it still stands up so well.
