Emarat Al Youm Newspaper
January 13, 2008
The New design of “Emarat Al Youm” newspaper in Dubai is out with its’ headlines set in “Imarat Headlines” typeface that i have created for them alongside “TheMix Arabic” which is used for the newspaper sections titles.

p.s. The Logotype is the same as in the old Layout of the newspaper. I did not do the logotype.
You can see the fonts in use on the online e-paper version of “Emarat Al Youm” newspaper. And if you live in Dubai, you can just buy the newspaper. ;)
For more info about the fonts, you can read the previous posts about “Imarat Headlines” and “TheMix Arabic”.
Here are some snap shoots from the new design with “Imarat Headlines” & “TheMix Arabic” in use. The new Layout was designed by ‘InnovAtion Media Consulting’. You can also read about the project on their website.
This pic is a close up from a page from the newspaper where they explain the new changes in the design and typefaces. Here is the description of the new headlines font, “Imarat Headlines”, that replaced the old one. The phrase translate to english as: “The newspaper chose a new typeface that is modern and active”.
Here is some other snap shoots of the newspaper.

nice work pascal! prime time ;)
it’s tremendously pleasing to the eye, and am a bit jealous it’s for dubai. i’d love to see such a sight on the newspaper racks in leb. being a typo geek i’d buy the newspaper just because it looks ‘good’ :) ‘al-akhbar’
and your pixel typeface looks like a success already ;) it’s a sexy and curvaceous doll ;)
rock on mate

Very beautiful Paco. I wish they can change their logotype and the text type, then it would be the ideal Newspaper in the Arab world :)

hello there, i came here from iToot and I’m glad that I did!
i was interested to know why your blog was called 29 letters in the URL.. as I thought that’s the length of the arabic alphabet, as opposed to english which is 26 i think..
anyway i found the blog most interesting to read.. as i love the arabic calligraphy aspect i think this is one of my best blog-discoveries yet!
btw, since you’re a professional in the business of fonts and the like.. i wanted to ask your opinion on this.
i am an arab that lived all of his adult life in the UK but was born/raised in dubai.. i am bilingual (engl/arabic) but i always find arabic fonts very hard to read especially on newspapers and online.. the letters are too close and the dots are almost impossible to read.. for example the Taa, and Thaa letters look the same with the two and three dots almost not noticeable.
what do you think of this? i don’t have this prob with english as there aren’t many dots in it i guess.
just a passing thought from a passing reader.
good work on a nice blog :)
